While some gamblers are simply chasing the dream of instant riches, there is a more pernicious underbelly to the industry. Rather than encouraging the public to pursue unsustainable paths to wealth, state lotteries should be promoting God\u2019s design for hard work and perseverance. After all, the Bible warns that \u201clazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth\u201d (Proverbs 24:4). The truth is that the lottery has become the perfect metaphor for a world that values instant gratification over long-term prosperity.
